Parent/Child Dedication

God has given you a precious gift! To celebrate and come along beside you, we conduct three—four Parent/Child Dedications each year. If you wish to participate in a Parent/Child Dedication, we ask that you preregister online or call the MZ Church Office.

This is a special celebration for parents to gather with family and friends, making a commitment to raise their child in a Christ-centered home. During the scheduled Worship Service, you will have an opportunity, along with other families, to stand before the church and celebrate the gift of your child. There will be a specific time in the Worship Service when parents make a public commitment before the congregation and then the people of Mount Zion commit to support these parents as they raise their children to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ.

Following the dedication service, you will be receive a book and a keepsake copy of your commitment.  Families will also be provided with an opportunity for a family photograph that morning. A DVD of the dedication may also be ordered.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can a child take part in a Dedication Service?
Our primary focus is on children from birth to 18 months. However, we consider each family on an individual basis.

Can a single parent participate in a Baby Dedication?
Yes. We want to do all we can to encourage your walk with Christ. As a church family, we desire to be a part of your extended family. If you want to participate in a Dedication Service and would like the support of your parents or another family member, we will gladly discuss this with you before the service to provide guidance on how they can take part.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the Dedication Service?
Yes. We have a preparation/information class for parents participating in these services.  This class usually meets two Sundays prior to the next scheduled Dedication time.

Can a non-attender of Mount Zion take part in a Dedication Service?
Part of the commitments being made as a part of the Dedication Service at MZ is a commitment for the church body to support and encourage the family in their commitments to God.  This cannot be accomplished in the instance of those outside our church family.  We would be happy to speak with you further about these commitments and would encourage you to contact the Pastor of Preschool and Children with any questions (

Do you provide reserved seating for grandparents and extended family?
Yes. We would not want your family to miss this important event in your life.
