Day 10

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”
(Matthew 6:10)

The kingdom of God is expressed whenever His children are so in tune with God’s heart that they obey God like God is obeyed in Heaven. Notice that we put His kingdom agenda even before our own needs that are mentioned in verse 11. This idea is repeated in Matthew 6:33 where it says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Often choosing God’s kingdom over our own agenda may cause a crisis of belief. We are not used to putting His will and His purposes over our own. When we pray, “God may your kingdom take priority over my personal and family needs” we will find God rearranging our schedules, reallocating our finances, and repurposing our abilities. But if we will surrender to His kingdom’s agenda, we will begin a life of true adventure and faith. Catherine Booth said, “There comes a crisis, a moment when every human soul which enters the kingdom of God has to make its choice of that kingdom in preference to everything else that it holds and owns.”

For us to live this way means that we must constantly yield our desires to Him and allow Him to redirect us as He wishes. How do we know it is God’s direction we are receiving? God never leads us away from the clear teaching of Scripture but always toward it. Invest your time, resources, and attention in the one kingdom that transcends this life into the life to come.

Application of God’s Truth

Do you feel stuck in your prayer life?  Could it be that there is an area of stubborn resistance where God wants you simply to do it His way.  Let God show you and then surrender this area to Him.
