Day 21

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4)

Just as we long for the day when temptation is gone, disease is eradicated, and death is a distant memory, God longs for that day, too.  At the end of the book of Revelation, we find that God restores our lives, our world, and the universe to a place of purity and innocence once again. The earth He created in perfection and turned to rebellion will be completely restored to a glory greater than the Garden of Eden.

No more cemeteries, hospitals, hospice care centers, and praise God—no dental offices! Sin will be no more! Disease will be gone!  Death is forever swallowed up into oblivion!

We long for that day while living out today. We must allow the hope of that tomorrow to impact how we live for eternity today. Although our communion with God is incomplete today, we must allow our ongoing longing to take times of respite to seek His face and bask in His love. We must pursue His wisdom and make His glory the priority of our lives.

Heaven is a real place that should cause real changes in our lives. Do not allow sin to keep you from enjoying all that God has to offer. As 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “Turn from (your) wicked ways.” What God calls wicked is wicked and leads to emptiness and ruin. Turn from sin and turn to Him and find the One person who loves you more than anyone.

Application of God’s Truth

The Bible is a love story of the God who loses the one He loves but is relentless in pursuing us until we relent and give ourselves to Him.  Take these moments to surrender to the One who loves you most.
