Day 30

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

There’s a story of a Spanish father and son who had become estranged. The son ran away, and the father set off to find him. He searched for months, to no avail. Finally, in a last desperate effort to find him, the father put an ad in a Madrid newspaper.

The ad read: “Dear Paco, meet me in front of this newspaper office at noon on Saturday. All is forgiven. I love you. Your father.”

On Saturday, 800 Pacos showed up, looking for forgiveness and love from their fathers.

God’s forgiveness is like that of this Spanish father. We are lost. He loves us and desires to “find” us. His message is the gospel which points to the death and resurrection of Christ that brings us back to God.

God has a message that He shares with us before we are saved and also after we are saved—“Come now, let us reason together.” In other words, “Come to Me and let’s sit down and talk. Yes, you can be real with Me about your sins. Please know that my response to your genuine confession will be complete and unconditional forgiveness based on the work of Jesus on the cross.”

Forgiveness is offered to all. The invitation is universal and pardon is available. Often, we feel “unforgivable,” and shame replaces the conviction of the Holy Spirit. We listen to the accuser instead of the One who has the authority to judge us, but chooses to forgive us.

God is inviting you to talk to Him about your sin. His desire is to forgive and free you. Will you sit down with Him today?

Application of God’s Truth

Every year around this time people engage in “spring cleaning.” Often windows are washed, closets are cleaned out, and yard sales are hosted to clean up and clear out. Take some time today and ask God to search your heart and clean out any sin He reveals.
